HECTOR — The Wildcats got a 49-46 win over the Magazine Rattlers on Tuesday inside the Hector Multipurpose Building after trailing through the majority of the game.
“The kids never quit,” Wildcats head coach Ben Freeman said. “Going into the fourth quarter, down 11 points, it would have been easy for them to fold late, but our defense really stepped up. Then, we hit some big shots and some key free throws in the closing minutes to pull out a win. I am really proud of my guys and their effort tonight.”
Hector trailed 8-7 and 18-14 at halftime. After the third quarter, the Wildcats were down 11 points.
Hector was led in scoring by Caleb Profitt with 13 points. Blake George scored 10 points. Treys Smedley scored nine points. Wade Farish and Isaac Stanek scored six points each. Gunner Garrison scored three points. Deaton Shipley scored two points.
Hector SG 49, Magazine 41
The Lady Wildcats beat Magazine 49-41 on Tuesday.
“The first half of this game was probably our worst half of the season,” Hector head coach Luke McAnulty said. “Credit to Magazine for playing hard and having a good gameplan against us. They did an awesome job controlling the first half. In the second half, we looked like the team we needed to be. The girls played hard to get back in the game with a lot of team effort and came out with a win over a good team.”
They led 12-11 after the first quarter but trailed 29-17 at halftime. After the third quarter, Hector climbed to a 34-32 lead.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by Alyssa Gililland with 15 points. Courtney Barnett scored 11 points. Andrea Sears and Evelyn Riley scored six points each. Molly Haley scored five points. Faith Barnett and Shelby Hendrix scored three points each.
Hector JG 32, Magazine 11
The junior Lady Wildcats defeated Magazine 32-11. They were led in scoring by Hallie Mosley with 10 points. Adreonna Higgs scored eight points. Josie Taylor scored five points. Sydni Collins scored four points. Maddie Riley scored three points. Brooke Smedley scored two points.
Magazine JB 38, Hector 26
The Junior Wildcats lost 38-26. They were led in scoring by Jim Dixon with 10 points. Luke Brown scored nine points.
Zeke Stanek scored three points. Malachi Torres and Kevin Bailey scored two points each.
